Tourism in Honduras is one of the fastest growing industries in the country. There are a lot of beautiful destinations in the country, where you can experience different types of food, participate in different activities and appreciate different sceneries. Because of its wonderful climate, Honduras receives tourists year round, there is no problem since there is a 25-30 degree Celsius temperature year round. Some of the most attractive destinations include: Roatan, Utila, and Cayos Cochinos, which are the ones that we will discuss in this post.
Roatan and Utila are two islands located in the north of the country, these two are the most famous of the Bay Islands. These Islands are famouse for the coral reef that passes near them and visit them all throughout the year to scuba dive, snorkel or just relax in the white sand beaches. If you do not have a scuba diving license yet, there is no problem because you can take a 3 day course right in any of the two islands and swim with the dolphins.
Cayos Cochinos, there are no words to describe it… just look at the video:
Cayos Cochinos is an archipealago of small keys, you can walk from one to the other, through crystal clear water. Cayos Cochinos is natural reserve and the government in Honduras has placed a lot of interest and funds in protecting this region. They are so serious with this initiative, that only a certain number of people are allowed to scuba dive or snorkel in the keys during a day, in order to keep this reserve as it is.
One funny fact about Cayos Cochinos, right now in Italy and Spain it is really famouse because they have filmed the reality show “Sobrevivientes” or Survivor in one of the keys.
Come and visit this paradise, you won’t regret it.

There is a famous T-shirt in our country that asks this question and as a joke; the answer written in the back is between Guatemala and Nicaragua. Even if a lot of people do not know about Honduras, it is a country that has a lot to offer.
Located in the middle of Central America, it has coasts on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and has borders with Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Honduras has around 8 million people; its official language is Spanish and right now is known around the world mainly because of the political instability last year. This is just a small summary so that you know where we are standing at this moment.
Honduras throughout the years has had several influences in its culture, for example the African culture has had a major influence in Honduras music. There is a typical type of music in Honduras called Punta. You might have heard it a few years ago, since there was a worldwide hit called “Sopa de Caracol”, performed by La Banda Blanca. If you were born in the 80´s and live in a Spanish speaking country you’ll know what I’m talking about.
Right now our most famous artist is Guillermo Anderson. He is the most important musician in Honduras and is quite known in other parts of the world as well. His style is composed of Afro-Caribbean percussions, contemporary sounds, local rhythms, and folklore of Honduras. His songs usually talk about the natural beauty in Honduras, its people, and situations faced on our daily lives. If you use Spotify, you can look him up and find around 10 albums you can listen to. Also if you would like to know more about him and his work, he has a website www.guillermoanderson.com.
I will talk more about Honduras’ music other posts so stick around.

Continue Reading »Welcome to Hondurasarts.com, in our blog you will find all kinds of information about Honduras. This blog has two authors, both of us were born in Honduras on a 20th of November, one year apart. We are very proud to be Hondurans and have started this project in order to encourage people to visit our beatiful country, visit its beaches, learn about its history, read interesting and positive news, learn more about the people that live in this country and specially let the world know about the different types of art in Honduras.
Our first post is dedicated to the typical Gallos de barro. In the picture above you can see several types of ceramic chicken, commonly found in the households in Honduras. You can see from the picture that they usually are red with paintings of flowers on the chicken’s chest. They are meant to be vases that usually carry water, that is why they have the a handle in the back, so that they can pour through their mouth the water that they carry inside. Now a days, they are used more for decorative purposes on kitchens or at the front of the houses.
These “Gallos” as they are known in the country, are originally from San Lorenzo, a small town in the south of Honduras. When travelling to San Lorenzo, you will see on the edge of the road a huge line of “Gallos” being displayed for the travellers to buy.
This is just one example of different types of pottery made in Honduras, but there are also many other crafts that you will enjoy looking and reading about in this blog.
