So, where is Honduras?

There is a famous T-shirt in our country that asks this question and as a joke; the answer written in the back is between Guatemala and Nicaragua. Even if a lot of people do not know about Honduras, it is a country that has a lot to offer.

Located in the middle of Central America, it has coasts on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and has borders with Guatemala, Nicaragua and El Salvador. Honduras has around 8 million people; its official language is Spanish and right now is known around the world mainly because of the political instability last year. This is just a small summary so that you know where we are standing at this moment.

Honduras throughout the years has had several influences in its culture, for example the African culture has had a major influence in Honduras music. There is a typical type of music in Honduras called Punta. You might have heard it a few years ago, since there was a worldwide hit called “Sopa de Caracol”, performed by La Banda Blanca. If you were born in the 80´s and live in a Spanish speaking country you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Right now our most famous artist is Guillermo Anderson. He is the most important musician in Honduras and is quite known in other parts of the world as well. His style is composed of Afro-Caribbean percussions, contemporary sounds, local rhythms, and folklore of Honduras. His songs usually talk about the natural beauty in Honduras, its people, and situations faced on our daily lives. If you use Spotify, you can look him up and find around 10 albums you can listen to. Also if you would like to know more about him and his work, he has a website www.guillermoanderson.com.

I will talk more about Honduras’ music other posts so stick around.
